Dalhousie is built on and around five hills - Kathlog, Potreyn, Tehra, Bakrota and Balun. It was founded in 1854 by the British Viceroy Lord Dalhousie and was a delightful summer retreat for the British troops and bureaucrats. Located on the western edge of the Dhauladhar mountain range of the Himalayas, it is surrounded by the beautiful scenery of snow-capped peaks. Dalhousie is situated at 6500 feet above sea level. Pangi Valley is a trekker's paradise. Sight seeing includes St. Francis Church, Subhash Baoli, Satdhara, Dain-kund, Panchpulla, Kalatop, Khajjiar and Chamba. Dalhousie landscape, complete with snowy peaks, thickly wooded mountains, exotic and wide spectrum of Flora & Fauna offer wending vistas of vision to the visitors.
How to reach
Pathankot is the nearest railhead and the gateway to Dalhousie at a distance of 80 km and 3 hrs drive. Pathankot is well connected with other parts of India. From Pathankot, regular buses and taxis are available to Dalhousie. Nearest major airports are Amitsar (180 km) and Jammu (200 km).
