Badami is well known for its rich history and ancient architecture. It was the capital of early Chalukya kingdom. A number of richly carved monuments and caves belonging to Chalukyas, dating back to the 6th and 7th centuries can be found here. The capital of the Early Chalukyas, Badami is picturesquely situated at the mouth of a ravine between two rocky hills. Badami is famous for its four cave temples - all out of sand stone on the precipice of a hill. Enter the first cave temple - past Shiva's doorkeepers - and what do you see?
