About 30kms from the centre of New Delhi and a fast developing city, Gurgaon is perhaps the most important of all Haryana towns. Originally it was named Guru Gram or Guru Gaon (teacher's home), and going by the Mahabharata, Yudhishtra gave the area to Guru Dronacharya for his teachings on warfare and arms to the five Pandavas when they were young. Till Independence, Gurgaon was a fairly backward town, but after that it rose to the occasion. Now there are a number of big industries like Atlas and the Maruti automobile factory. Not much to see here in terms of history. The Sheesh Mahal in Farukhnagar is a rectangular double-storey building and was built by Fauzdar Khan in AD 1733. It is so named because of the intricate mirror decorations within. The complex also houses a jail, which was used as well as a jail and a torture chamber.
