Kolkata has a tropic wet and dry climate. Summers (March-May) are hot seasons with maximum temperature crossing 40°C and minimum above 30°C. Winters during December to February have a cool climate with temperature dipping down to 9°C to 11°C. May is the hottest month and January is the coldest month. Monsoons during June to September provide a major portion of annual rainfall and heavy showers are occurring during this season.
