In the pages of History, the earliest mention of Mysore or Mahishur is in the time of King Ashoka in 245 BC. On the conclusion of the third Buddhist convocation, Ashoka is said to have dispatched a monk to Mahishamandala for the purpose of spreading Buddhism. Mysore, traces a mythical past, when Goddess Chamundeshwari of Chamundi Hills killed the demon, Mahishasura. Ever since, Mysore has always managed to carve a niche for itself, be it in terms of creating history or otherwise. Mysore has seen great rulers and great science.
